Pogba: How we need to play against Burnley

Sunday 18 April 2021 08:00

Paul Pogba says Manchester United should look to dominate the ball and play our usual game when we take on Burnley this Sunday afternoon.

The Clarets have proved to be tough opponents in recent years and it took a gutsy performance for the Reds to come away from Turf Moor with a narrow 1-0 victory in January.

Burnley won 2-0 on their last trip to Old Trafford, in January 2020, and we are yet to complete a home and away double over the Lancashire side during their six seasons in the Premier League.

Therefore, Pogba, who scored the only goal of the game when we last locked horns with Burnley, knows how much of a challenge Sean Dyche’s men will pose as the sides meet again.

The Frenchman gave his thoughts on what the Reds’ approach should be to such a tough clash.

“They will be a difficult opponent, they always [have] been,” Pogba told club media earlier in the week.

“Everyone knows how they play but they’re very good at it. We know we have to be careful, it won’t be easy, but we have to play our game and be dominant like we were in the other game [against them this season].
A win for United would cut Manchester City's lead at the top of table, with Pep Guardiola’s men involved in Emirates FA Cup semi-final action this weekend, and help us move closer to securing second place in the Premier League. For that reason, Pogba knows that taking three points against Burnley is of huge importance.

“It’s a good chance to beat them at home, definitely,” the World Cup winner said.

“We want to win at home as well, for us, for the league. We want to get to being eight points from City, so I think it’s going to be an important game for us.”

The Burnley game kicks off at 16:00 BST and you can watch MUTV's exclusive live build-up, including the all-important team news announcement, for free on ManUtd.com and in our Official App from 14:55 BST.
