Pogba: We have to wake up for the next game

Paul Pogba was honest in his evaluation of United's performance following the Reds' first defeat of the season, away to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Speaking to MUTV's Mark Sullivan after the game, the French World-Cup winner outlined what went wrong, in particular, during the first half, when the Reds were hit with two goals in two minutes by the hosts.

"It's definitely not good enough," Pogba said. "We've lost twice in a row to Brighton and it shouldn't happen. I should have done better, with fewer mistakes and more control of the game."

Romelu Lukaku pulled a first-half goal back for United but the Reds were punished just before half-time when Eric Bailly conceded a penalty. Despite Jose Mourinho's men rallying in the second half and cutting the deficit to one after Pogba's late spot-kick, United weren't able to get an equaliser.

“It was very disappointing,” Paul added to Sky Sports. “We tried to push, we had the ball, we were trying and we kept trying until we scored the goal, but it was a bit too late.”

Paul Pogba says

"We always play for the shirt and for the fans, and today’s result is not what we or they wanted. They should be mad - we are."

Pogba insists that the players are able to deal mentally with the pressures of playing for United and that the squad will be fully focused on getting back to winning ways when we host Tottenham at Old Trafford a week on Monday.

“You always have to be focused, we always try to play better than the last game, but you know, I know myself that we cannot always play very, very good, but the attitude has to be right and I think maybe we missed that today.”

"We always play for the shirt and for the fans," Paul insisted. "Today's result is not what we or the fans wanted. The fans should be mad - we are.

"Today was a bad performance from all of us and we have to wake up for the next game."
