International round-up: Reds in action
Three Reds were in action with their countries on Sunday evening as we approach the end of the October international break.
Denmark welcomed Greece to the Parken Stadium - home of both FC Copenhagen and the Denmark national team - as the weekend drew to a close, registering a 3-1 win, with all their goals coming in the first half.
Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu came on and Rasmus Hojlund, currently on loan from United with Italian side Napoli, netted the opener in that meeting with just over 20 minutes on the clock.
The striker seized a loose ball played back to the goalkeeper by Greece's Christos Zafeiris, taking just a single touch to poke it beyond Odysseas Vlachodimos and in at the far post.
Dalot and Fernandes feature in Portugal win
ArticleRoberto Martinez's side exerted control in Group F, although left it late to beat Ireland.
Hojlund's effort set the tone for a dominant performance, with Fulham's Joachim Andersen and Brentford's Mikkel Damsgaard adding to the Danes' tally before referee Michael Oliver sounded his half-time whistle.
Greece did managed to pull one back after the break through Christos Tzolis, but it proved to be little more than a consolation.
United wing-back Dorgu also got some minutes, when he replaced Gustav Isaksen in the 76th minute, having started the game on the bench along with former Red Christian Eriksen.
The only other Red in action on Sunday was Academy forward James Scanlon for Gibraltar's senior side. He completed just over 90 minutes before being substituted in stoppage time for Liam Jessop, but found himself on the wrong side of a 3-0 defeat to Croatia.
We could see more United stars in action on Monday, as we approach the tail-end of the October international break.
Cameroon face Angola in their final World Cup qualification clash of Group D, where they're vying to snatch top spot from Cape Verde. Bryan Mbeumo scored a stoppage-time goal off the bench in their last outing against Mauritius, a 2-0 victory, with Andre Onana – who is currently on loan with Trabzonspor – keeping a clean sheet at the other end.
Benjamin Sesko could start again as Slovenia host Switzerland in a qualification match, having played a full 90 minutes as his side were held to a goalless draw against Kosovo on Friday.
Rounding off potential involvement is goalkeeper Senne Lammens with Belgium, who face Wales in a qualifier. However, our latest recruit still awaits his full debut for his nation, having completed the same feat for United recently, but faces tough competition for a place in the matchday squad with Real Madrid's Thibaut Courtois and Nottingham Forest's Matz Sels at manager Rudi Garcia's disposal.
