United legend Keane praises red-hot Rashford

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has praised the form of Marcus Rashford after watching him score a ninth goal in 10 matches for club and country on Sunday night.

The 22-year-old Old Trafford hero was initially named on the bench as England faced Kosovo at the Prishtina City Stadium, but that did not stop him from making an impact as a second-half substitute.

Marcus was introduced by head coach Gareth Southgate after 59 minutes and the flourishing forward netted soon after, by executing a first-time finish that found the far corner of the net. Watch the goal in the tweet below...

Rashford’s strike contributed to a convincing 4-0 win for the Three Lions and former United captain Keane was impressed by what he saw, describing the Red’s finish as the pick of the bunch.

“Brilliant, brilliant goal,” praised Keane on ITV. “What a finish. He is back to his best. It was a lovely play, nice and simple. Does it matter about the opposition? Of course it does, because they’re getting opportunities, but that was the goal of the night. A lovely finish. Pure quality.”

Keane also assessed England’s exciting forward line and explained his view that Rashford is a first-choice selection for Southgate, as he continues to plan for next summer’s European Championship.

“The attacking three players you’d have at the minute are [Raheem] Sterling, [Harry] Kane and Rashford. The three of them are outstanding players who cause you all sorts of headaches.”

RED-HOT FORM

Rashford has now scored nine goals from his last 10 appearances with United and England.

That excellent run of form began in the previous international break against Bulgaria at Wembley Stadium, and continued upon his return to Old Trafford during the 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

Marcus then scored in the away win at Norwich City and registered a memorable brace in the Carabao Cup tie at Chelsea, which included a sensational free-kick from around 35 yards.

Further strikes followed during our home wins over Partizan Belgrade and Brighton & Hove Albion, before two more individual goals were tallied with England against Montenegro and Kosovo.

Rashford’s next appearance is likely to be on Sunday afternoon, when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's improving Reds travel to Sheffield United in the Premier League.
