McTominay: Bayern game is an opportunity

Scott McTominay believes that this evening's UEFA Champions League group-stage clash with Bayern Munich is an opportunity for Manchester United to "rectify" the mistakes that have been made in recent weeks.

Erik ten Hag's side host the German giants at Old Trafford knowing that a win is essential if we are to reach the knockout rounds. Currently fourth in the group, having accumulated four points across our five matches so far, we also need Copenhagen's home game against Galatasaray to end in a draw.

Speaking to club media in advance of tonight's crucial fixture, Scott says that he and his team-mates owe it to our fans to put in a good performance, after the disappointing loss to Bournemouth on Saturday.

Scott says the Reds need to hit high levels this week, for important games against Bayern Munich and Liverpool...

"For us, it is a big game [against Bayern] and we need to rectify some poor results we've had," he said.

"[Tonight] is a good night and an opportunity to do that.

"Football comes at you thick and fast. There are always different things going on and a lot of variables in the game but we have to concentrate on ourselves. I'm sure the fans don't appreciate us saying too much at the minute and they just want to see results, and we firmly agree with that."

Despite United's previous Champions League results this term, Ten Hag's men have scored 12 goals in the competition.

While believing that the Reds should be in a better position due to our exploits in front of goal, Scott recognises that we should now focus on what we can control - triumphing over Bayern Munich at Old Trafford.

"We can't do anything about it [the other match in the group]," he added.

"We have found ourselves in a difficult situation when realistically, when you look at the games, we deserve to be a lot better off than we are. That's football. We can't cry about it. We have to just get on with it.

"I'm sure it will be a great game in terms of Bayern Munich haven't been to Old Trafford in a while and we just want to approach it with everything we have got and push to take care of our own business and we will see from there."
