Six players added to UEFA squad

Thursday 08 September 2022 11:31

Six Manchester United youngsters have been added to the B list for the club's Europa League squad.

Although their addition does not necessarily mean they will be involved on matchday, it follows our training footage from Carrington on Wednesday, which showed several Academy prospects working with the senior squad.

The actual team news will be released around 75 minutes prior to tonight's 20:00 BST kick-off.

Radek Vitek has been added to the list of goalkeepers, joining David De Gea, Tom Heaton and new signing Martin Dubravka.

Central defender Tyler Fredricson was a key member of the side that reached the FA Youth Cup final last term until being ruled out of the game against Nottingham Forest due to illness.

Kobbie Mainoo is another of the FA Youth Cup-winning group, with the promising midfielder making the step up to the Under-21s this season and performing well in the Papa Johns Trophy win at Carlisle United recently.

Zidane Iqbal showed his credentials during the pre-season tour and the eldest of the sextet has impressed with his mature displays. The 19-year-old has represented Iraq at international level.

Shola Shoretire, like Iqbal, has already made his senior bow for the Reds and appeared in the Europa League for the first team, coming on as a substitute against Thursday's opponents Real Sociedad in a 0-0 draw in 2021. The England Under-19 forward became our youngest player in European competition that night.

Charlie McNeill completes the list – the centre-forward scored against Carlisle and also in the 2-2 draw with Liverpool in Premier League 2 last weekend. The striker, who turns 19 on Friday, was another influential performer in Travis Binnion's successful Under-18s side last season.

First-team regular Anthony Elanga is also considered part of the B list as he fits the criteria.
