The boss spoke about Varane, Cavani, young players, COVID-19 vaccines and more during his media briefing ahead of Southampton…

“At least he’s out from the gym and outside in the lovely Manchester weather! [laughs]”

It was hoped that United’s new no.36 would potentially be involved against Leeds last weekend after a solid pre-season but an injury in the build-up to the game unfortunately ruled the teenager out.

Telles hasn't played since the friendly with Derby County att Pride Park in mid-July after suffering an injury during training.

The Brazil international has, however, been working hard on his own rehabilitation to ensure that he makes a return soon and his attitude has impressed Solskjaer..

Solskjaer's squad is loaded with talent after six players joined training this week, so who will travel?

“Alex has shown a tremendous attitude to the rehab,” added Ole.

“He is working really hard and is another one who gets a setback but you can sit down and sulk or you can go back into the gym, work hard and make sure that when you’ve come back you’ve worked on different things.”

With games coming thick and fast this season for Solskjaer and his side, players will be called upon hastily and it is hoped that both Elanga and Telles are back out on the pitch contributing to that squad depth in no time.
