Rangnick reveals team news for Villa game

Friday 14 January 2022 13:00

Ralf Rangnick has provided a bulletin on the Manchester United squad ahead of Saturday's teatime kick-off at Aston Villa.

The interim manager has welcomed Harry Maguire, Phil Jones, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo back in training this week after they were absent for the Emirates FA Cup third-round victory over the Villans on Monday night.

However, Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay are both unavailable for Villa Park due to the one-match suspensions they must serve for racking up five yellow cards in the Premier League.

Paul Pogba is still ruled out, due to the injury he sustained while on international duty with France last year.

"I think they will be available," Rangnick told a press conference, when asked for the team news regarding Maguire, Ronaldo and Sancho in particular.

"They only trained yesterday for the first time. Cristiano yesterday, Harry the day before yesterday. We have to wait for the final session this afternoon but as it seems right now they should be available for tomorrow [Saturday]."

VILLA'S TEAM NEWS

Steven Gerrard has been busy in the transfer market, signing Philippe Coutinho, on loan from Barcelona, and Lucas Digne, from Everton. Anwar El Ghazi has moved in the opposite direction, to Goodison Park.

Trezeguet and Bertrand Traore are on Africa Cup of Nations duty, while John McGinn is out through suspension.

Ashley Young appears to be remaining on the sidelines with Leon Bailey and Marvelous Nakamba.

"Young Jaden Philogene-Bidace [tight pelvis area] is the only change from the squad," said Gerrard. "Leon and Marvelous are still out, they're progressing well in their rehabs. The squad will be pretty similar to Monday. We obviously add Philippe and Lucas to the mix and they're both fit and in contention."
