Confirmed: United team to face Paris Saint-Germain

Wednesday 02 December 2020 18:45

Manchester United's team to face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League at Old Trafford has been announced.

The boss has made three changes from the XI that beat Southampton 3-2 at the weekend, with matchwinner Edinson Cavani afforded the opportunity to start against the club for whom he holds the all-time goalscoring record.

It looks like the Uruguayan will lead the line, with Bruno Fernandes in the no.10 position and Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, who comes back into the side for Mason Greenwood after illness, cutting in from the flanks.

Scott McTominay also returns after injury to replace Nemanja Matic.

Meanwhile, David De Gea has been passed fit to play and continues in goal. The Spaniard was a doubt after being substituted at half-time at the weekend, due to a knee problem.

Paul Pogba, who hasn’t featured in any of United’s three games since the international break, is fit enough to take up a place among our 12 substitutes.

“We know that we play against a good team and we’ve got some fresh legs out there with Scott, he’s just got back from his injury,” Solskjaer told MUTV.

“Anthony was supposed to play against Southampton and he’s looking sharp again. With Edinson and the impact he made… it was always the case really for me, I look at this game with Edinson up front, but he had to play 45 minutes on Sunday as well.

“It’s a similar set-up to the Istanbul game of course. We found a good balance there and we’re playing against a team with some individual attacking players that you don’t really see very often.

“We have to defend well as a team. We have to make sure we’re compact and of course, don’t give them any counter-attacks with the pace they have up front. But if we’re good on the ball we should be creating chances.”

For PSG, captain Marquinhos and midfielder Marco Verratti start, after missing our first meeting in the group through injury, but former United players Angel Di Maria and Ander Herrera are on the bench.

It looks as though Thomas Tuchel will deploy his side in a 4-3-3 formation, with Neymar, Moise Kean and Kylian Mbappe as the three attackers.
