Pundits split on United's Player of the Month

Manchester United's Player of the Month award for October will be won by one of two Reds, according to the panel on this week's episode of The Debate.

The show's host Liam Bradford and guests Ben Thornley, James Ducker and David McDonnell offered their opinions after being presented with the options of Casemiro, Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford, who have all been shortlisted after a hectic run of nine games.

It ended in a split decision with Dalot and Martinez gaining our pundits' recognition for their efforts during a largely positive period for Erik ten Hag's side.

Our panel think Dalot or Martinez will be named Player of the Month in October.

"I'm going to go for an unorthodox one," said former winger Thornley. "I'll say Diogo Dalot."

The Mirror journalist McDonnell agreed with the ex-player, adding: "It's Dalot for me, because he's an unsung hero.

"I think he has improved so much with his consistency of performance and we saw that against West Ham, with those back-post headers."

However, it was also felt that Argentina international Martinez is in a good position to scoop his second monthly award since joining the club from Ajax in the summer, after a string of combative performances at the heart of the defence.

"I'll go for Martinez," stated Ducker of The Daily Telegraph.

"I think the others are feeding off him. I think if you take him out of the team, it'd be a big loss."

Bradford, The Debate's presenter, concurred with Ducker to level the panel's votes at "two versus two."

He added: "Who doesn't love 'The Butcher of Manchester'? But I don't know who is going to win [the award]!"

Martinez was our first Player of the Month this season, in August. His fellow summer signing Christian Eriksen collected September's trophy after a stellar month in the Reds' midfield.
