The week ahead for United

Monday 04 February 2019 10:06

Life at Manchester United remains fast paced, so our weekly guide is here to bring you up to speed with what's coming up at the club...

MONDAY
As the Reds recover after Sunday's hard-fought 1-0 victory at Leicester City, it's 12 years to the day since John O'Shea played in goal against Tottenham Hotspur. After Edwin van der Sar had to be substituted with a broken nose, the defender took the gloves and helped see out our clean sheet in the 4-0 win at White Hart Lane in 2007.

TUESDAY
The club - as well as our fans in China - will celebrate Chinese New Year, with 2019 the Year of the Pig. In the early evening, our Under-18s are in action against league leaders Everton at Finch Farm. Kick-off is at 18:00 GMT and you can watch it live on MUTV. Meanwhile, on this day in 1958, the Reds drew 3-3 with Red Star Belgrade in the club's final game before the Munich Air Disaster. It's also seven years to the day since we came from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Elsewhere, former Reds Cristiano Ronaldo (34) and Jesper Blomqvist (45) celebrate birthdays.

Wednesday will mark 61 years to the day since the Munich Air Disaster.

WEDNESDAY
It's the 61st anniversary of the darkest day in United's history as 23 people - including eight players and three members of the club's staff - suffered fatal injuries in the Munich Air Disaster, when travelling back from the European Cup tie against Red Star. Meanwhile, it's 20 years to the day since the Reds beat Nottingham Forest 8-1 during our Treble-winning season. Our current caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer netted four of our eight goals, setting a record for the most goals scored by a substitute in a single game, as Alex Ferguson's side recorded the largest away win in Premier League history.

THURSDAY
As the first team step up preparations for Saturday's Premier League game against Fulham, United Women have a big game against Arsenal Women in the semi-finals of the Continental Tyres League Cup. Kick-off at Meadow Park is at 19:30 GMT. Meanwhile, on this day in 1970, George Best scored six goals in an 8-2 thrashing of Northampton Town in FA Cup fifth round.

FRIDAY
Solskjaer is due to hold his pre-match press conference at the Aon Training Complex ahead of Saturday's trip to the Cottagers. The time of the media briefing is yet to be confirmed.

SATURDAY
The Reds will be looking to make it six away wins in a row when making the trip to the capital to face struggling Fulham at Craven Cottage in the lunchtime game, with kick-off at 12:30 GMT. Elsewhere, our Under-18s are also in league action against Liverpool, whom we beat in the Premier League Cup last month, at the Aon Training Complex (kick-off 11:00 GMT). It also marks a year to the day since former United midfielder Liam Miller sadly passed away at the age of 36.

SUNDAY
United Women's game against Aston Villa has been postponed due to the Midlanders' FA Cup involvement.  Meanwhile, the first team will be recovering from Saturday's match, as attention switches to the first leg of our Champions League last-16 tie against French giants Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday 12 February.
