What's happening this week at United?

Monday 15 August 2022 10:00

At the beginning of another week at Manchester United, supporters will be keen to see how the next seven days shape up.

With action scheduled for our women's, Under-21 and Under-18s sides, there is plenty to sink your teeth into in terms of action out on the pitch, although the first team are not playing again now until 22 August.

Erik ten Hag's side will be training hard ahead of our next Premier League clash with Liverpool.

Here’s a handy day-by-day breakdown of everything to look out for over the next week...

MONDAY

Former United Women goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain celebrates her birthday on Monday, and we'd like to wish you a very happy birthday, Siobhan!

TUESDAY

Marc Skinner's side are set for their second pre-season test ahead of next month's WSL kick-off, as they face off against Paris Saint-Germain in Toulouse. With action set to commence at 20:00 BST, United will hope to build on a strong foundation having resumed training just weeks ago, following the Lionesses' success at the European Championship. Updates and images from our Women's exploits will be shared in our Official App, so keep your eyes peeled!

Tuesday is your first opportunity to get your hands on the September 2022 edition of our magazine Inside United. The magazine will be on sale from Tuesday until Monday 12 September, so make sure you get yours!

WEDNESDAY

While there are no matches for any of our sides on Wednesday, there are some key anniversaries of some former greats to celebrate. On this day in 1996, David Beckham scored THAT goal against Wimbledon from the halfway line.

In addition, Wednesday marks the date that United legend Peter Schmeichel made his debut back in 1991. Former full-back Rafael made his first appearance for the club on this date in 2009, and sublime striker Robin van Persie signed on 17 August 2012.

THURSDAY

Thursday marks the date of two legends' debuts for the club, with Denis Law and Denis Irwin making their United bows on this day in 1962 and 1990 respectively.

Tune into our official channels for updates from training, as the Reds crank up preparations for when Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool visit Old Trafford the following Monday.

There will be early team news, highlights and images for your reading or viewing pleasure, so make sure you don't miss out.

FRIDAY

On Friday, Ten Hag will conduct his pre-match press conference ahead of Monday’s clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford. You can tune in to the briefing on MUTV, which is now available in our Official App.

In addition, all the key talking points and highlights will be shown on our official channels for the remainder of Friday and across the weekend.

United's Under-21 side play their third game of the season on Friday evening, as Mark Dempsey's young Reds travel to Merseyside to face Everton at Finch Farm. Bidding to bounce back following last week's defeat at home to Crystal Palace, the game is set to commence at 19:00 BST.

Friday is a significant landmark for United Women, as it is the date of the Reds' first-ever match after forming in 2018. United ran out 1-0 winners over Liverpool on that day, thanks to a goal from Lizzie Arnot.

We will also remember former goalkeeper Les Sealey, who passed away on this day in 2001.

SATURDAY

As the weekend swings round, Travis Binnion's Under-18s side are set to face their Nottingham Forest counterparts, with kick-off scheduled for 12:30 BST. The game is being shown live on MUTV. Having beaten the Tricky Trees in the final of the FA Youth Cup last season, kicking off the campaign against them will be the perfect chance to begin the season on a high.

Legendary striker Dwight Yorke signed for the club on this day in 1998. This signing turned out to be monumental, as Yorke formed a formidable partnership with Andy Cole and United went on to win the Treble.

Speaking of deadly strikers, Robin van Persie made his Reds debut on this day in 2012, in a 1-0 defeat to Everton.
