What’s happening at United this week?

Monday 26 September 2022 15:07

The week ahead will be another busy one at Manchester United, as Erik ten Hag's Reds gear up for Sunday’s Manchester derby.

The international break is set to conclude on Tuesday evening and our national-team players will then return to the training pitches at Carrington, to prepare for our trip to the Etihad Stadium.

And that’s not all this week: United Women, our Under-21s and Under-18s also have matches to play on Saturday, along with a host of key dates and anniversaries which will be celebrated.

Read our day-to-day breakdown of what you can expect...

MONDAY

In the evening, keep an eye on our App and website to for coverage of England against Germany at Wembley. Club captain Harry Maguire and fellow defender Luke Shaw could feature for Gareth Southgate's side.

Monday is also the anniversary of Matt Busby's Reds earning a famous 10-0 win over Anderlecht in the 1956/57 European Cup. It was our first home match in the competition and it remains our record highest score.

TUESDAY

Fans can register their opinion in our latest Goal-of-the-Month poll for September.

Also available on our official platforms will be the latest episode of The Debate. Find out what former players and journalists have to say about this week’s key talking points, as they look ahead to our clash with Manchester City.

Tuesday concludes our coverage of the international break, with four matches involving our players: Canada v Uruguay (17:00 BST), Brazil v Tunisia (19:30 BST), Portugal v Spain (19:45 BST) and Sweden v Slovenia (19:45 BST).

WEDNESDAY

We'll have reaction to Tuesday's international fixtures, as many of our players travel back to Manchester.

Wednesday is also the 18-year anniversary of an 18-year-old Wayne Rooney scoring a hat-trick on his United debut. To mark the occasion, we'll show the 2004 Champions League win over Fenerbahce in full.

THURSDAY

Thursday marks the date that Cristiano Ronaldo broke the Champions League all-time appearance record when he played against Villareal in the competition last season. The Portuguese icon earned United the win with a last-minute strike.

In the same fixture, left-back Alex Telles scored his first Reds goal, hammering home a sublime volley in the eventual 2-1 win, which was also awarded our Goal of the Month award.

FRIDAY

Ten Hag will conduct his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium. The exact time of the media briefing is still to be confirmed, but you can watch it live via the United App, ManUtd.com or MUTV. It will also be available on demand.

SATURDAY

There are three fixtures to look out for in close proximity: our Under-18s v Blackburn Rovers at 11:00 BST, followed by the Under-21s against the same club at 12:00 BST and then United Women versus Aston Villa from 12:30 BST.

MUTV will show the U18s' fixture live and in full. At full-time, the channel will then switch to the first half of our women's game in Birmingham. Unfortunately, the U21s match cannot be broadcast because it clashes with senior Premier League fixtures. However, as normal, we will provide live updates via the app.

Saturday would also have been the birthday of the late Duncan Edwards and our thoughts will be with the family.

At 22:30 BST, you can watch part two of Ten Hag's pre-match press conference.
