United's Under-18s celebrating the 5-0 win over Blackburn.

United's Under-18s beat Blackburn Rovers 5-0

Saturday 17 March 2018 14:37

Manchester United’s Under-18s stormed to another convincing victory in blizzard conditions at the Aon Training Complex on Saturday to keep us well on track in the title race.

The young Reds, who had rattled home six goals in four previous home games this season, looked all set for a fifth half-dozen, but ultimately had to be content on this occasion with a handful.

The weather prediction was that there was a chance of snow in the region - well they definitely got that one right because this Premier League Under-18 match was played out in incredibly heavy snow, which was horizontal at times, and that was punctuated with bursts of bright, mildly warm sunshine.

The elements did little to interfere with the game that in the early stages saw possession shared between the teams. United perhaps were a little more inventive in front of goal and certainly looked the more likely to break the deadlock. And, in the 20th minute, they Reds duly moved into the lead with a goal out of the blue when Nishan Burkart tried his luck with a curling shot from the right wing that found the top corner with Rovers’ keeper Ben Winterbottom stranded.

Ten minutes later and United doubled the lead with James Garner tapping home after taking a short pass from Mason Greenwood. United were well into their stride by this time and looking more than capable of adding to the tally.
Half-time was reached without further addition to the scoreline, but within four minutes of the restart Mason Greenwood grabbed a third goal following excellent work from Millen Baars.

Kieran McKenna then made three changes, but it did nothing to alter the pattern of play and in the 65th-minute Baars was the provider again, this time for Dylan Levitt to be the beneficiary.

D’Mani Mellor rounded off the scoring three minutes later to cap another impressive performance in extremely testing conditions.
