Dylan Levitt in action against West Ham Under-23s

United Under-23s set for table-topping clash

Manchester United's Under-23s return to action tonight with a top-of-the-table clash away to West Ham United in Premier League 2 Division Two.

Ahead of the game, which kicks off at 19:00 GMT and will be shown live on MUTV, the Reds are in second spot, one point behind the unbeaten Hammers.

The London club secured a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford earlier in the season and this will be another big test for Neil Wood's team, who hope to have James Garner and Dylan Levitt available after being sidelined recently.

James Garner will hopefully be available for the trip to Essex.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been hoping the likes of Eric Bailly and Tim Fosu-Mensah get a run-out at this level after recovering from knee operations but they will not feature at the Chigwell Construction Stadium.

"No, we are not sending them down to London to play for 45 minutes," he explained to MUTV.

"Sometimes a training session here can give us just as much. Hopefully, a few of them will be available for Friday [a home Premier League 2 fixture against Newcastle United]."

Tahith Chong, a key figure for the Under-23s when he has featured, sustained a heavy knock during the Wolves tie in the Emirates FA Cup at the weekend, and was substituted as a result.

Angel Gomes was an unused sub at Molineux, while a number of the Under-18s who have gained some Premier League 2 experience this term, have been in Germany, competing in the Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup.

The Reds did not reach the semi-finals but defeated Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties in our final game.
