United issue Henderson fitness update

Monday 02 August 2021 17:00

Dean Henderson is missing Manchester United's training camp in Scotland this week after recently contracting COVID-19.

The keeper, who made 26 appearances last term, was forced to withdraw from England's Euro 2020 squad during the tournament due to a hip problem, but he told us last week that he had recovered from that injury.

However, the 24-year-old is still feeling the effects of the virus after initially testing positive a few weeks ago.

“Dean Henderson will miss Manchester United’s Scotland training camp while he continues his recovery from prolonged fatigue after contracting a COVID-19 infection three weeks ago,” the club said in a short statement.

“He is expected to be training again soon.”

Everybody wishes Dean a speedy recovery, with the final pre-season friendly against Everton due to take place on Saturday (kick-ff 12:45 BST) at Old Trafford.

David De Gea linked up with the squad at the camp in Scotland on Monday, following his post-Euros break, while recent recruit Tom Heaton and Lee Grant have played in the previous warm-up fixtures.

The Reds kick off our Premier League season against Leeds United on 14 August (kick-off 12:30 BST).
