United players stretch in the sunshine.

Preparations continue for Reds' Wembley trip

The preparations continued for this weekend’s visit to Tottenham as the United players enjoyed another good training session in Dubai.

Paul Pogba joined up with the group, following treatment on an injury back in Manchester in the last few days, which forced him to miss the Reading game.

Tuesday's session was attended by former United captain Bryan Robson, who caught up with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his old team-mate Mike Phelan. The Reds started with some fitness work as a squad before the main group took part in some ‘boxes’ and the goalkeepers worked alongside their coach Emilio Alvarez.

Chris Smalling continued his recovery from injury away from the main group, while Solskjaer confirmed in a pitchside interview with MUTV that Marcos Rojo and Fred are missing from the training camp due to injury and personal reasons respectively, with Fred’s partner expecting a baby any day.

The United boss is delighted with the team’s exertions in the Middle East so far, saying: “There are always great facilities here and we’re always well looked after. I’ve been here with Molde before and I didn’t expect anything else when you’re here with Man United.

“The players are working hard and I think it was important to come here. There are a couple of aspects [to it] – it’s the weather, the downtime the boys can have together, and it’s the time we can have on the pitch together. They don’t have to go back to their wives and kids after training so there is plenty of time for video analysis and to work on some principles of play.”

First-team coach Michael Carrick is also pleased with how things have been going so far, adding: “It’s fantastic here. It allows us to train in a way you probably can’t at home, with the weather being so cold there. We can work on different things here. When it’s freezing cold, you have to keep the lads moving and don’t want them standing around too much but, here, we’ve been working hard and it’s allowed us to spend more time on the training pitch and go into a little bit more detail on things.”
