Demi Mitchell in action at Old Trafford.

United youngster Mitchell joins Hearts on loan

Manchester United Reserves full-back Demi Mitchell has joined Scottish Premiership side Hearts on loan for the rest of the season.

The highly-rated defender started out as a winger but has made a successful transition to left-back. He has been a regular in Ricky Sbragia’s side and has also chipped in with an impressive tally of four goals this season.

Mitchell, who joined the club’s Academy at the age of 10, said he was "over the moon" after being handed his first-team debut by Jose Mourinho in the Reds’ final Premier League game of last season against Crystal Palace and was also included in the 27-man squad for the pre-season visit to the United States.

The Mancunian was also part of the England Under-17s team which won the European Championship back in 2014 and has since gone on to represent his country at Under-20 level.

Mitchell will hope to gain valuable first-team experience in the remainder of 2017/18 and is the second United player to secure a loan move away from the club this week after striker James Wilson joined Championship side Sheffield United.

With teams north of the border currently enjoying a winter break, Craig Levein’s Hearts - who sit fifth in the Scottish top-flight - are heading to Spain for a warm-weather training camp to play friendlies against Vitesse Arnhem and Nurnberg.

Mitchell could make his competitive debut for the Jambos in their Scottish Cup fourth-round tie against Edinburgh rivals Hibernian at Tynecastle on 21 January.

Everyone at the club wishes Demi well during his loan spell in Scotland.
