Victor Lindelof arriving at Old Trafford

Lindelof exclusive: We need to be on our toes

Sunday 01 December 2019 05:00

Victor Lindelof believes Manchester United will take the game to Aston Villa in today's return to Premier League action at Old Trafford.

In an exclusive interview with United Review, our historic matchday programme at Old Trafford, the Sweden centre-back also emphasises the importance of being 100 per cent prepared for the visit of the Villans.

“I think it’s going to be a tough game,” says Lindelof. “They’re a team that works very hard and they’re towards the bottom of the league at the moment, so they fight for every point.

“It’s going to be a very tough game and we have to be ready for that and be on our toes. Be ready from the start, play our game, play fast and hopefully we can make it very, very difficult and, of course, win those three points.”

It’s the first time Villa have made the trip to M16 since April 2016, with Dean Smith’s side back in the top-flight after three seasons in the Championship.

Although the West Midlanders have only won once at Old Trafford in the Premier League era, Victor isn’t taking anything for granted, especially after last Sunday’s 3-3 draw against fellow newly-promoted side Sheffield United.

“Yeah, well we all know there are no easy games in the Premier League,” adds the 25-year-old when recalling events at Bramall Lane.

“This is my third season in the Premier League and I know that, so it doesn’t matter if you play against the top teams or the ones at the bottom of the league, it’s always going to be a tough game.

“We always have to be ready. I think everyone in the squad and everyone that plays in the Premier League knows that.”

The Reds have only played at home three times since the end of September, beating Partizan Belgrade and Brighton & Hove Albion, while also drawing against rivals Liverpool.

Sunday’s match is the first of six which will take place at the Theatre of Dreams in the final month of 2019, and Lindelof is pleased to be back among familiar surroundings.

“It’s always nice to play at home, of course, at Old Trafford. It’s always nice to be back here and hopefully we can do some good things attacking-wise.

“Against Brighton, we did some really good stuff and showed what we are capable of once again. We just have to go out with the right attitude.”
