Boe Risa: The fans are a part of us

Vilde Boe Risa praised the Manchester United fans who were in full voice at Leigh Sports Village, braving the cold weather to watch us beat Everton on Wednesday evening.

Over 1500 home supporters were present on Wednesday evening as our no.8 scored a brace in United's 4-2 win against Everton in the Continental Tyres League Cup.

Despite the wintry conditions, the spectating Reds made themselves heard, much to the pleasure of Boe Risa.

Boe Risa: The performance was great

Vilde Boe Risa was thrilled to bag a brace in United Women's win over Everton...

"It [the fans coming out] is very much appreciated," she told club media after the match.

"It was impressive to see them there standing in their Christmas jumpers and cheering and singing.

"It's so good for us to have them here and hopefully they're going to come to every single game because we really need them - they're a part of us."

Boe Risa opened the scoring for United in the first minute of the game, before netting her second, and United's third, on the 20-minute mark.

"It is obviously nice to score - I always want to score, and today I scored two," she said.

"I'm really happy about that, but the most important thing was to win today and we did that."

She continued: "I think we got a good start to the game and that was important for us to just keep going. The second and third came quite quick, so it was a good performance."

Marc Skinner's side rack up the goals again - but our hopes of Continental Cup progress are dashed by results elsewhere.

Marc Skinner made nine changes to the United side who emphatically beat Aston Villa at Old Trafford over the weekend, but Boe Risa believes every player that came in earned their chance.

"It's always difficult to change that many players, but I think all of us have played a lot together now in the cup and in friendly games," our no.8 said. "I think we all deserved to play out here, so it was really nice to play today."

"I think we had a good tactical view before the game, and we know exactly what to do. We got to exploit them [Everton] and the spaces they showed us on the pitch. I think it was so cold that we all just had to run around and be warm! So, it was nice to score four goals."

Next up for the Reds is the Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, in a blockbuster Manchester derby in the WSL this Sunday (12:30 GMT kick-off). Ahead of that clash, Boe Risa says she's relishing the chance to play at yet another big stadium.

"Playing at the Etihad is going to be a cool experience for us and I think we're in a good flow now," she said. "[There are two games left before the Christmas break and if we win this game it's a very good step into the next half of the season.

"We're going to [have] a good performance there and hopefully get a win."
