1992/93 PL Goals

Watch all 67 of United's league goals from the 1992/93 campaign, as we celebrate the club reaching 2,000 recently...

The season before – the final term in English football before the top flight was rebranded as 'the Premier League' – United had agonisingly been pipped to the title by Leeds, and were languishing in sixth place until a seismic moment occurred in November 1992.

That was the month Alex Ferguson convinced Leeds to part with infamous enfant terrible Eric Cantona. Instantly buoyed by the Frenchman's arrival, United were transformed, and began a glorious odyssey towards a first championship since 1967.
GOALS OF THE SEASON

Giggs v Tottenham

While Cantona's arrival was the key factor in 1992/93, Ryan Giggs continued to make a name for himself as arguably the league's outstanding young talent. Here, he nutmegs centre-back Jason Cundy, rounds keeper Ian Walker and sensationally whips the ball home at White Hart Lane.

Irwin v Tottenham

If any piece of play summed up the creative liberation Cantona gifted to the team, this was it. An astonishing feat of imagination, Eric's pass to Denis Irwin takes out almost every member of the Spurs team. You can hear Old Trafford being almost reborn in the roar that erupts when the Irishman's shot finds the net at the Scoreboard End.
Kanchelskis v Norwich

Look up Manchester United in the dictionary, and they should show a diagram of this goal. Blisteringly quick counter-attacking football, which starts on our six-yard line and ends in the Canaries' net just 13 seconds later after a dizzying blitz of flicks and first-time touches.

Bruce v Sheffield Wednesday

In the dying moments of a game Ferguson's side looked to be losing, Steve Bruce's second headed goal sends Old Trafford crazy and turns one point into three. Arguably the moment that started 20 years of domestic dominance.
Steve Bruce and Bryan Robson lift the title after a 26-year-long wait.

WHAT THEY SAID

Alex Ferguson: "Our 3-1 win over Blackburn was more of a party than a football match. Nobody was happier than Sir Matt [Busby]. He was so proud to see his club win the league again... No-one should have any doubt about the massive contribution made by Eric Cantona. He brought priceless presence and style to the team."

George Best: "They have been bold, brave and the best. That's why they deserve to be the Premier League's first champions. I suppose comparisons with my old team are inevitable. The game has changed but one vital commodity that United had in my time and, thankfully, now possess is a touch of creative genius in the side. Bobby Charlton and Denis Law displayed the flashes of inspiration to lift us on our days. Ryan Giggs is the gem in the present team and he's not alone. I'm a great fan of Mark Hughes... The signing of Eric Cantona has also been a brave move by Alex."

Rob King (Press Association): "The circle of history is now complete. The children of the sixties whose fathers hailed Best, Charlton and Law now have their own gods: Hughes, Cantona and Giggs. Alex Ferguson's triumph is not just to have chased away the shadows through which a succession of Manchester United managers have stumbled but to have emerged into a new dawn with the same zest and verve first shown by Sir Matt Busby's magnificent men."
