In case you missed it: Donny's day at Carrington

Monday 08 May 2023 16:00

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek is closing in on a return to first-team action.

The 26-year-old suffered a knee injury in the Reds' 3-0 win over Bournemouth back in January and has since gone under successful surgery in the Netherlands.

Just last week, Premier League Productions followed Donny around our Carrington training ground, as he provided a sneak peek into a day in the life during his recovery.

Revealing his special bond with team-mate Luke Shaw, and with club physio John Davin, the video provided fans with a rarely seen special insight.

In early April, PLP spent the day with Donny at Carrington and captured the Dutchman progressing nicely...

The Dutchman can be seen working hard in the gym, with the focus now on our no.34 returning to the fold for the start of the 2023/24 season.

Erik ten Hag's side have only five games left before the end of the current campaign, and the boss provided an update on the midfielder's plan back in January.

"I think it is quite positive news," Ten Hag told club media at Carrington.

"Of course, the bad news is he is out for the rest of the season, but the good news is, in the long term, his knee will be okay and he will be ready again to play at the highest levels and will be ready for the start of pre-season."

During PLP's video, Donny provided a positive update himself, with the Premier League's camera capturing him back working with the ball.

''Everything is going up now and I feel much better, I am on a good road now,'' he said.

''I have to eat a lot of protein as well, to [help] recover and be on top with what I eat. I have to eat good stuff in order to help with my knee.''

Van de Beek had made ten appearances this season, prior to his recent setback, having featured regularly in pre-season too.

The Dutchman has also claimed his first piece of silverware as a United player this year, when the Reds won the Carabao Cup back in February.

Hoping to kick on and likely to feature during our US Tour in the summer months, we all hope to see Donny back on the pitch in the not-so-distant future.
