Brown: 'I can't wait to come back'

Friday 01 April 2022 11:40

Manchester United club ambassador and fan-favourite Wes Brown will be back at Old Trafford in May for the Legends of the North match against Liverpool.

The former defender, who made 362 appearances for the Reds scoring five goals, has been a long-time supporter of the Foundation and recently sat down with us to talk all things Legends and to look back on his support.

“First and foremost, I can’t wait to come back,” Wes said. “Everyone connected with United knows the importance of the Liverpool fixture, so even though this is a friendly game in aid of a really good cause, everyone on that pitch will want to win!

Wes Brown appreciates any game against Liverpool is special as he previews the Legends of the North clash...

“It’ll be great to see the lads again,” he added. “I’m sure the banter will be flying round as usual and that it’ll be a great occasion, but we know that what we’re really there for is to support the Foundation and the amazing work they do.

“As someone who has been heavily involved with their work and knows the importance of it, there’s no way I was going to miss out on the match!”

Throughout the pandemic, Wes was a regular face at our partner schools as we distributed thousands of food parcels to families in need across Greater Manchester, and he has also visited numerous community projects over the years.

“It’s important that people know that it’s not just through football that the Foundation supports the community,” Wes commented. “They are there in tough times too. It was amazing to be part of the work they did during the pandemic, helping families that really, really needed it.

“The Foundation couldn’t do this without events like the Legends game, so I would encourage fans to get involved and come to the match if they can!”
“What I love most of all is visiting the schools and working with the kids. It’s clear to see the enjoyment they get out of the Foundation going into their schools and they help so many now, it’s really unbelievable. As a local lad, it really means a lot to me.”

The former United no.6 will be joined by the likes of Diego Forlan, Patrice Evra, Jaap Stam and a host of other club greats when the match takes place on Saturday 21st May at Old Trafford.
