What is Shaw's nickname for McTominay?
Luke Shaw has a unique nickname for Manchester United team-mate Scott McTominay as the pair prepare to be in opposing camps on Friday, when Scotland travel to Wembley Stadium to face England in their second Euro 2020 fixture.
It unfortunately wasn’t to be a dream start for McTominay’s side in their opening match on Monday afternoon, as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Czech Republic at Hampden Park thanks to a brace from striker Patrik Shick.
But redemption will more than certainly be at the forefront of McTominay’s mind as he faces off against some of his club colleagues in the form of Shaw, Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire.
With tonight’s crucial game in Group D edging closer, a lot of United fans have been curious to know what sort of camaraderie exists between Scott and his pals in the form of different individual nicknames.
In a recent fans’ Q&A, the United Academy graduate explained the reasoning behind some of his club nicknames when pressed to reveal what people call him around the Aon Training Complex.
‘I’d probably say Scotty but I don’t know as Luke Shaw always says ‘The Gym Man’ because I’m always in the gym,” he said. “But he always walks in when I’m in the gym so that’s just a coincidence there!’’
‘’Other than that, Deano [Dean Henderson] has got a few nicknames for me that are not really applicable and vice-versa for him. So, yeah, just Scotty. To be fair, all the coaches and all the players call me Scotty.’’
With ‘Scotty’ seemingly the most popular nickname for United’s no.39, there was also one further late admission coming from the way of United’s Ivorian defender Eric Bailly.
‘’Eric calls me McTerminator and he enjoys that one. He’s a top guy Eric.’’
