Revealed: Hinata's United squad number

Hinata Miyazawa will wear the no.20 shirt for Manchester United Women.

The attacking midfielder shone at this summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup – winning the adidas Golden Boot award after scoring five goals in four games for Japan – and completed her permanent move to Manchester from Japanese side Mynavi Sendai earlier today (Wednesday).

As we await a first glimpse of our new signing in action for the Reds, supporters can now personalise our 2023/24 home, away and third shirts with ‘Hinata 20’ printing, via our online store, United Direct.

At the recent World Cup, the Japan international donned the no.7 jersey for her nation, who topped Group C over eventual tournament winners Spain and went on to reach the quarter-final stage.

For her previous club, Mynavi Sendai, the 23-year-old’s squad number was nine, meaning that she will sport a new look on the field for United this season.

Hinata becomes the third incumbent of our women’s team’s number 20 shirt, most recently occupied by Aissatou Tounkara across her one season as a Red, in 2022/23.

The French defender had taken over from Kirsty Smith, following the latter’s departure last summer. Smith was United Women’s first no.20, as a member of our inaugural squad in 2018, and kept the same number throughout her four years at the club.
