Alex Telles

When could Alex Telles next be in action?

New Manchester United signing Alex Telles could be in action sooner than you’d expect.

The left-back secured a move to Old Trafford from FC Porto on transfer deadline day, agreeing a four-year deal with an option for a further year.

With the international break having begun, Alex won’t be appearing in red until at least 17 October, when United take on Newcastle.

However, he could play for his national side Brazil this week, with the Selecao getting their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign under way at 01:30 BST on Saturday.

Telles has been included in a 23-man squad for upcoming games at home to Bolivia in Sao Paulo and away to Peru in Lima.

Along with Atletico Madrid’s Renan Lodi, Telles is one of two left-backs selected by manager Tite, and he could add to his one appearance for the five-time world champions so far, having made his debut during a friendly with Panama in March 2019.

The qualifiers, to be played on 10 and 14 October respectively, are the first two games in a mammoth CONMEBOL campaign, which involves the 10 South American international sides playing each other home and away over 18 matchdays between now and March 2022.

Liverpool’s Fabinho and Roberto Firmino are in the squad, alongside Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson and new Chelsea signing Thiago Silva.

Richarlison, who has made a stellar start to the season with Everton, is also in, while Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz will, like Telles, be hoping to appear for his country for only the second time.

When he makes his United debut, which could be later this month, Telles will become the eighth Brazilian to play for the Reds.
