Wednesday's internationals: Who's playing and when?

Wednesday 14 October 2020 08:00

A number of Manchester United first-teamers could be in action tonight (Wednesday), on a bumper evening of international football.

Eleven Reds are in line to feature across the continent, as the Nations League's group phase continues.

Daniel James and Dylan Levitt have travelled with the Wales squad to Sofia, where Ryan Giggs’s team will face Bulgaria. The Dragons are unbeaten thus far, and are the only team in the top two tiers yet to concede a goal.

James played 77 minutes on Sunday as his country drew with the Republic of Ireland 0-0 in Dublin, and will be hoping to retain his place, while Levitt came off the bench for the final stages.

Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba are part of the France delegation set to take on Croatia at Stadion Maksimir in Zagreb. Both featured in Les Bleus’ goalless draw with Portugal at the weekend.

Portugal themselves host Sweden at the Estadio Jose Alvalade – the former home of Bruno Fernandes, once of Sporting Lisbon.

The midfielder played 80 minutes against France, and will hope to be back in the starting XI against Sweden – and his United team-mate Victor Lindelof. Our centre-half played the entirety of Sweden’s 2-1 defeat to Croatia on Sunday.

Elsewhere, England will compete with Denmark at Wembley, fresh from beating the world’s no.1-ranked side, Belgium, last weekend.

Marcus Rashford scored the Three Lions’ equaliser from the penalty spot, and played all 90 minutes of the 2-1 victory, as did club-mate Harry Maguire.

Dean Henderson was an unused substitute, but would make his senior international debut if selected against the Danes.

The final two European Reds in action are Donny van de Beek (the Netherlands) and Scott McTominay (Scotland), whose nations will vie with Italy and the Czech Republic, respectively.

Van de Beek was an unused substitute for the Oranje against Bosnia & Herzegovinia on Sunday, while McTominay played at centre-back in Scotland’s 1-0 win over Slovakia on the same day.
