Who supplied the best cross of the season so far?

Tuesday 13 February 2024 15:00

There is something special about a brilliant cross, particularly the air of expectancy as it floats into the box.

Of course, Manchester United had arguably the greatest-ever in this category in David Beckham, whose delivery was so often pinpoint and precise.

Diogo Dalot's first-time assist for Scott McTominay's headed winner at Aston Villa on Sunday got us thinking about some of the best crosses of our season so far. Most of them, but not all, have led to goals, so take a look at the compilation yourself and then vote for your favourite.

Apologies for any good ones we may have missed out!

Ten great crosses in 2023/24

Check out our compilation of some of the best crosses during the course of the season...

1. BRUNO FERNANDES (for Marcus Rashford, Tottenham - A)

A rabona by Bruno Fernandes would have generated an incredible assist for Marcus before we succumbed 2-0 at Spurs. The flag was not raised so it may have counted but Rashford's header was off target.

2. BRUNO FERNANDES (for Casemiro, Bayern Munich - A)

Another entry for the skipper as, with time almost up in our UEFA Champions League opener, he produced a wicked centre from a free-kick that was touched home by Casemiro, albeit in vain, as we lost 4-3.

3. MASON MOUNT (for Casemiro, Crystal Palace - H)

A first assist in the red shirt for Mason, who delivered the perfect corner from the right and Casemiro arrived, on cue, to do the rest in the Carabao Cup tie.

4. CASEMIRO (for Anthony Martial, Crystal Palace - H)

Also in the opening game of our defence of the trophy, Casemiro sent over a deep ball that was expertly finished off by Anthony Martial. We feel this falls into the category of a cross and is well worthy of inclusion.

5. MARCUS RASHFORD (for Rasmus Hojlund, Galatasaray - H)

Storming down the right, the England international sent over a high, driven cross on the volley that was inviting for Rasmus to cannon into the net off his head from close range.

6. CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN (for Harry Maguire, Copenhagen - H)

Another Champions League goal, and it proved to be the winner against the Danes. Fittingly, it was supplied by Christian, whose right-sided ball was flighted in, begging for a finish, that was supplied by Harry in the middle.

7. ALEJANDRO GARNACHO (for Scott McTominay, Chelsea - H)

They were queuing up for this one as the Argentina international worked the ball onto his right and delivered an inswinger that had the Stretford End salivating at the prospect of what turned out to be the winner.

8. ALEJANDRO GARNACHO (for Rasmus Hojlund, Wigan - A)

Another pinpoint cross by Garnacho should probably have yielded a goal for Rasmus, but the centre-forward's header hit the bar and Wigan survived on this occasion in the Emirates FA Cup third-round encounter.

9. ALEJANDRO GARNACHO (for Scott McTominay, Tottenham - H)

In the dying seconds, United hunted a dramatic winner against Spurs but Scott, for once, was off target with his header, after another ideal delivery into the danger area by our exciting wide man.

10. DIOGO DALOT (for Scott McTominay, Aston Villa - A)

After being pegged back at Villa Park, it took something special to regain the lead late on. Kobbie Mainoo did well to allow Diogo to strike a sumptuous first-time cross that was given the nod of the approval by McTominay in the middle.

But was it the best cross of the season so far? You decide.
