Who was Man of the Match?

Sunday 12 February 2023 16:48

Manchester United defeated Leeds United 2-0 on Sunday, thanks to late goals from Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho.

The Reds had to work hard for the spoils but showed real battling qualities to move into second spot in the Premier League table, ahead of Manchester City's later kick-off against Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium.

There were a number of candidates for our Man-of-the-Match award but a clear winner soon emerged.

Who was our star performer in the win at Leeds?

Red-hot Marcus Rashford continued his outstanding run of form in front of goal by heading in the opener, after finding space inside the box. Rashy, who has been challenged by Erik ten Hag to hit 30 goals this term, moved on to 21 for 2022/23 with an emphatic finish past Illan Meslier.

Luke Shaw supplied the cross and performed well at centre-half before shifting to his more regular left-back role.

David De Gea, on his 400th Premier League appearance, kept a clean sheet and made an impressive stop to deny Crysencio Summerville in the second half.

Rashford logged over half of the votes cast (51 per cent) to finish clear of second-placed De Gea (nine per cent) with substitute Garnacho and Fred (7 per cent) in joint-third spot.

Fred, incidentally, was voted Sky Sports' Man of the Match.

Marcus scooped our award for the first time since the away win at Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup but this is already the fifth time in 2023 that he has been handed our star-man accolade.
