Who was our Man of the Match against West Ham?

Tuesday 09 February 2021 22:46

Manchester United reached the last eight of the FA Cup on Tuesday evening, after a 1-0 victory over West Ham at Old Trafford.

The Hammers were obdurate opponents for much of a bitterly cold evening in M16, and even managed to force the game to extra-time.

But in the 97th minute, substitute Scott McTominay fired home the only goal of the evening, after arriving late in the box and latching on to Marcus Rashford's creative flick.

It was the midfielder's third goal in three games, following impressive strikes against Everton and Southampton.

See what the boss thought of our hard-fought victory over David Moyes's men...

Victor Lindelof went closest to opening the scoring in a tight first half, but his header deflected off Hammers defender Craig Dawson and was brilliantly saved by Lukasz Fabianski.

The Irons were more progressive in the second period, but failed to severely threaten Dean Henderson's goal with clear attempts, registering only three shots throughout.
Midfielders and defenders led the charge for the Man-of-the-Match award in the poll conducted via our Official App.

But unsurprisingly, McTominay claimed the prize, after decorating an attritional contest with his dramatic extra-time strike.

The Scotland international grabbed 41 per cent of the vote, with the energetic, industrious Fred second on 14 per cent.
It was McTominay's third award of the season, following his two-goal masterclass against Leeds United the weekend before Christmas and a similarly decisive performance in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup, where he once again scored the tie's only goal - on the night he captained the senior side for the very first time.

Alex Telles came in third, after a strong showing down the left-hand flank alongside Rashford.

Thanks to everyone who voted - and congratulations to Scott.
