When does Barcelona v United kick off?

Tuesday 14 February 2023 14:44

Manchester United's Europa League play-off tie against Barcelona has been hotly anticipated since the draw was made in the autumn.

The prospect of the match-up was on the cards as United finished second in our Europa League group, while Barcelona dropped out of the Champions League as they ended up behind Bayern Munich and Internazionale in their pool.

Sure enough, the clubs were paired with one another on 7 November, with the first leg set for the Nou Camp this Thursday (16 February) and the return taking place at Old Trafford seven days later.

As so much time has passed since the draw, you may have forgotten some important details, not least the kick-off time for each game.

How are both squads looking ahead of Thursday's much-anticipated Europa League play-off tie?

The meeting at the Theatre of Dreams begins at 20:00 GMT, as with all of our other European home games this season, but Thursday's clash has been given an earlier slot.

We'll take on the Catalans at 17:45 GMT (18:45 local time), in a match that is being broadcast live on BT Sport in the UK.

Team news will be released 75 minutes before the first kick – as per competition rules – and therefore you can officially find out our XI from 16:30 GMT via the United App, on ManUtd.com and MUTV.

Our Matchday Live show will then begin at 16:40 GMT.

Why the earlier time then?

Well, early-evening kick-offs are nothing new for United in this season’s Europa League – in fact, all three of our previous away games, against Sheriff Tiraspol, Omonia Nicosia and Real Sociedad, took place at this time.

Since the 2018/19 campaign, UEFA has often split matches across the two slots in order to give fans the opportunity to watch more European matches.
