Champions League Pots One & Two confirmed

Wednesday 16 September 2020 12:40

Donny van de Beek will definitely not be getting a quick reunion with his former Ajax colleagues after the eight teams in Pot Two of the Champions League group stages were confirmed.

Manchester United are in that pool, along with the Dutch champions, who only missed out on the 2019 final due to an injury-time strike by Tottenham's Lucas Moura.

Ajax looked set to be in Pot Three, only for Benfica to be knocked out by PAOK on Tuesday in the qualification rounds. The Greek side won 2-1, with Benfica's summer signing from Spurs, Jan Vertonghen, scoring an own goal.

The eventual winner in the play-off came from Andrija Zivkovic, against his old club, with the Tehessaloniki outfit striving to make the group stages for the first time in their history.

The other six clubs in Pot Two are Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, Manchester City and Shakhtar Donetsk.

The three English teams cannot meet Liverpool in the group stages of the draw, which is set to take place on 1 October, and will be covered live, as it happens, on ManUtd.com and our Official App.

Both Pot One and Pot Two are now settled, with the final two pools awaiting confirmation after more qualifying ties.
