Your one-stop guide to a massive week for United

Monday 09 July 2018 09:30

The minds of football fans everywhere are centred on the FIFA World Cup in Russia, but this is also a big week for Manchester United and there is plenty going on over the next seven days…

MONDAY
Our popular and hard-working wing-back, Ashley Young, celebrates his 33rd birthday alongside his England team-mates at the World Cup in Russia, where the Three Lions are currently preparing for that monumental semi-final against Croatia on Wednesday evening. The respected campaigner has made four starts at the tournament so far and everybody at Old Trafford is buzzing to see him performing so well, notably registering an assist in the 2-0 quarter-final win over Sweden at the weekend. A place in the final would surely be the perfect birthday present.

TUESDAY
This is the one-year anniversary of Romelu Lukaku joining United from Everton and, without doubt, the striker has been an instant success as a Red. His career ascent could continue in the evening, when Belgium face Paul Pogba’s France with a place in the World Cup final up for grabs. That match will kick off at 19:00 BST and you can follow live updates in our rolling knockout stage blog.

WEDNESDAY
At 19:00 BST, Phil Jones, the aforementioned Young, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford all hope to feature in England’s historic last-four clash against Croatia at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. If they win, we will have United players on both sides during Sunday’s showpiece finale.

SATURDAY
It’s the game that history often forgets, but the World Cup third place-play-off will take place at the Saint Petersburg Stadium from 15:00 BST. We are guaranteed to have some involvement in the tie.

SUNDAY
Tour 2018, presented by Aon, will officially begin when the United squad flies from Manchester Airport for this summer’s pre-season training camp in the USA, where the Reds will contest matches against Club America, San Jose Earthquakes, AC Milan, Liverpool and Real Madrid. The players are due to report back to the Aon Training Complex during the week.

Of course, there is also the small matter of the World Cup final in Russia at 16:00 BST, which is guaranteed to have at least one United representative involved.

We’ll all be cheering them on!
