World Cup fever reaches Old Trafford

Saturday 16 June 2018 17:34

Mexico fans proudly wearing sombreros and carrying their national flag were collared by ManUtd.com when they made a point of visiting Old Trafford on Friday morning.

Jorge Garcia, Alejandro Gonzalez and Jesus Delgadillo were making an estimated 6,000-mile journey from Monterrey and Monclova to Moscow, via Manchester and Milan, so they could be in the crowd for Mexico's first tournament fixture against Germany. They'll also be attending Portugal v Iran, Spain v Iran and France v Denmark during their stay in Russia.

While dropping in at the Theatre of Dreams, the travelling trio evaluated their national team's chances of success and gave us a score prediction for Sunday's big game.

Jesus Delgadillo

"We'll perform really well at this World Cup and we'll win it, definitely! That's why we're going there, to bring home the trophy."

Mexico v Germany prediction: 1-0

Ex-Reds striker Javier Hernandez is nicknamed 'Little Pea' (Chicharito) but he's a massive hero for Mexico fans

Alejandro Gonzalez

"It's crucial to have Chicharito in our team. I think he will score a lot of goals and he will be a key that could win us the World Cup. He's our most important player. He has done great things for Manchester United and the other clubs he has played for. It will be great to watch him perform in Russia."

Mexico v Germany prediction: 1-1

Cristiano's free-kick against Spain reminds us of THAT set-piece against Portsmouth...

Jorge Garcia

"Although I support Mexico, I'm also a Cristiano Ronaldo fan so I'm excited to see him play. I'll also enjoy watching David De Gea, a key player for Spain. They say goalkeepers win trophies so De Gea is very important there."

Mexico v Germany prediction: 2-1
