Iqbal: We are all still learning

Manchester United midfielder Zidane Iqbal insists there are positive lessons to take from the team's 4-2 friendly defeat against Cadiz.

Reds manager Erik ten Hag chose to utilise most of his travelling squad throughout the 90 minutes, with Iqbal catching the eye in the opening 45.

The 19-year-old was involved in our first goal as he cleverly combined with Anthony Martial, before being brought down inside the area to earn a penalty.

Our Frenchman duly converted the spot-kick, and Iqbal later highlighted the way his side battled to get back into the game after going 2-0 down early on.

Despite United's loss to Cadiz, Zidane Iqbal says our winter training camp is teaching the Reds valuable lessons...

''[We conceded] two sloppy goals and with it being our first game back after a little break, we will look back at it,'' began Zidane, following the full-time whistle.

''I thought we grew into the game and it's been a great experience overall, adapting to the weather and just getting my fitness up in the first 45 minutes.

''I thought the lads did well and they competed, but we are still learning, so some little mistakes ended up in goals.

''We are still on our journeys and I think we did well. We all have more to come.''

With the onus on giving vital game time to his squad, Ten Hag opted to use 21 different players during the 90 minutes at Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla.

Real Betis present the next test for United to manoeuvre our way through on Saturday afternoon, before the Reds return to Manchester to prepare for our Carabao Cup clash with Burnley on 21 December.

Iqbal was keen to emphasise the different threat that Spanish sides present, whilst also looking ahead to this weekend's encounter with the Green-and-Whites.

''They kept two wingers high and then kept two wingers just around, always ready for a counter attack. They were staying deep and screening,'' added Zidane.

''Different opposition, different tactics, different weather, different place... all of this adds up and it's been a good experience so far.'

''[On] Saturday we play Real Betis who are a strong side, they are high up in La Liga, but it will be a great experience for the lads.

''We are all young and we are all still learning.''
