A born-and-bred-Red, Ella has been starring and scoring for United Women since our rebirth in 2018, although her national reputation ramped up during England's victorious Euro 2022 campaign.
Toone spent seven years with the Reds’ youth teams before returning, via spells at Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City, in 2018. The childhood United fan is an explosive midfielder with a real eye for goal, and she is the club’s all-time leading scorer. Ella is a two-time European champion with the Lionesses, most notably producing a crucial quarter-final equaliser against Spain at Euro 2022 and a brilliant chip to open the scoring in the final against Germany. She also reached the World Cup final with England in 2023 and her performances that year earned her a spot in the FIFA FIFPro Women’s World 11. Ella starred in United’s successful return to the FA Cup final in May 2024, and she opened the scoring with a superb long-range strike against Tottenham, which later won the team’s Goal of the Season award. That was one third of an individual-prize triple for our current vice-captain, who was chosen as the fans’ Player of the Year, while sharing her team-mates’ corresponding accolade with Maya Le Tissier. After claiming another Euro title with England in 2025, Ella scored United Women's 500th all-time goal and then became the first player to reach 200 appearances for the club.
