Edinson Cavani

Edi thanks fans for new song

Edinson Cavani has only played once in front of Manchester United fans at Old Trafford, yet the much-loved striker can now boast two terrace chants dedicated to him!

Our no.7 is expected to return to the first-team fold soon, having enjoyed a summer break back in his native Uruguay following his country’s elimination from the Copa America quarter-finals in early July.

Edi posted a picture of himself with his family at their Manchester home last week, showing he’s back in the UK, and supporters cannot wait to see what the 34-year-old has to offer at a full Theatre of Dreams this season, after he plundered 17 goals in 39 appearances in total last term.

By the looks of it, he'll certainly have plenty of backing - footage was shared of a new song about ‘El Matador’ over the weekend, with fans belting it out at a pub on the same day as our impressive 5-1 opening-day victory over Leeds.

Cavani is clearly impressed as he used the video, which you can watch above, on his own social media platforms, offering his gratitude in the caption by saying ‘Thanks for the affection…’

The words to the song, thought to be based on 'So High' by German hip-hop duo SXTN, go like this: “I am in love, I can’t deny; Our number seven is the king of Uruguay.

“El Matador, who could that be?; His first name’s Edinson, his second’s Cavani…”

A separate ode to the former PSG and Napoli forward went down a treat on social media last year, at a time when football was still being played behind closed doors.

That one goes to the tune of ABBA’s ‘Gimme Gimme Gimme’, and we even got Edi to sing a line during an interview with club media to celebrate signing a new contract!

With the Reds' next game at Old Trafford not until 11 September, when we take on Newcastle United, there’s plenty of time for fans to practise singing both.

The only question is, which one will you be belting out?
