Earps wins 2023 Women's World Cup Golden Glove

The United keeper kept three clean sheets across the tournament, with the Lionesses narrowly missing out on glory after losing 1-0 to Spain in Sunday's final.

Mary brilliantly saved Jenni Hermoso's penalty during the contest in Sydney, but despite England's best attempts it wasn't to be.

However, despite the disappointment, Mary was awarded the Golden Glove accolade for her exploits throughout the tournament.

Having recorded clean sheets against Haiti, Denmark and Nigeria, the United Women goalkeeper has continued to showcase her talents on the world stage this summer.

She also claimed the WSL's crown for the same accolade last season, keeping 14 shutouts during the 2022/23 campaign.

Reaching new heights once again, Mary will soon return to Manchester, with pundits continuing to sing her praises as to the impact she has made - and continues to make - in the women's game.

"She's been phenomenal," said England women's record goalscorer Ellen White on BBC. "She's shown it on the world's stage and she has kept England in games and gave them an extra boost with that penalty save."

"What she has been through the last three, four years, her development as a goalkeeper, her mentality has been phenomenal and that's a credit to her.

"In this tournament she has just stepped up and has been one of England's best performers. To perform at this highest level, in these moments, in this World Cup, to say to the rest of the squad, 'I am giving you this extra 10 to 15 per cent.'"

"She deserves this credit and accolade, to go from being a number three keeper to being a number one is incredible," added former Arsenal striker Alex Scott, praising Earps's development over the years.

Earps spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live Sport herself after the game, amplifying her disappointment that England couldn't quite get the job over the line.

"I feel like they had a chance and took it, and we didn't. I felt like we were really in the game," she began.

"I'm sure we will feel really proud in a couple of weeks but right now it is really raw. Gutting.

"I feel like I just try to go out and do my job for the team, leave everything on the pitch. The team result is the most important thing really and we couldn't get that today.

"In a couple of weeks, when the emotion has settled down we will probably be able to look back and feel proud - it is no small feat to get to a World Cup final.

"But we are very competitive people, we came here to win the game and get a gold medal, not a silver one."
