Mary Earps

Earps makes Women's Super League history

Saturday 27 May 2023 18:15

Manchester United goalkeeper Mary Earps has taken her clean sheet tally to 14 this season, reaching a new landmark for the Women’s Super League.

The previous record for a single season stood at 13, held by Arsenal’s Manuela Zinsberger, which Mary equalled with our 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.

Her latest shutout may go down as one of her favourites of our campaign, earning it away from home against rivals Liverpool.

On a relatively quiet afternoon, our no.27 was on hand to save Emma Koivisto's second-half attempt and eventually gather the rebound to secure the historic 14th.

While our no.27 takes home the accolade, she will undoubtedly share the plaudits with her defence who have helped along the way.

Ona Batlle, Maya Le Tissier, Millie Turner, and Hannah Blundell have all been mainstays in our backline, contributing significantly to our 14 shutouts.

Aoife Mannion, Maria Thorisdottir, and Jayde Riviere have also played in front of Earps during the 2022/23 league campaign, while Aissatou Tounkara featured in the Conti Cup.
One of the standout displays for our shot-stopper came in an away trip to Reading, where Rachel Williams' sole strike late on snatched all three points for the Reds.

For Earps, it was a 50th WSL clean sheet, becoming the first goalkeeper to achieve that feat in the English top tier.

Mary’s award-winning haul of clean sheets has been achieved at the expense of Reading (4-0, 0-1), West Ham (0-2, 4-0), Brighton (4-0, 0-4), Leicester City (1-0), Everton (0-3, 0-0), Arsenal (1-0), Aston Villa (5-0), Tottenham Hotspur (3-0), and Liverpool (6-0, 0-1).

Congratulations, Mary!
