Malard is United Women's Player of the Month

Melvine Malard’s action-packed start to life at Manchester United has led to her winning October’s Player of the Month award.

The French international signed for Marc Skinner’s side on loan from Lyon on transfer deadline day, 15 September, and has since endeared herself to the United faithful.

Malard made five appearances last month, missing only our opening WSL fixture against Aston Villa, and scored three goals across all competitions.

Our no.9 secured almost half of all votes cast, with her 46 percent giving her a healthy lead over fellow new signing Geyse (30 percent) and Rachel Williams (24 percent).
Malard wasted no time in hitting the ground running for the Reds, scoring just five minutes after coming on as a substitute against Arsenal.

The new signing poked the ball home from close range, despite the presence of an opposing defender; her strike looked set to be the winner, until Cloe Lacasse equalised for the Gunners in stoppage time with a Goal-of-the-Season contender.
Melvine was back on the scoresheet when we welcomed Paris Saint-Germain to Leigh Sports Village for our first-ever UEFA Women’s Champions League tie.

Our no.9’s equaliser was a moment in history, marking our inaugural goal in that competition.

However, in the return leg, the French club beat us 3-1, subjecting us to an early exit.

Wanting to hit back from European disappointment, Skinner’s side returned to league action with a thumping 5-0 victory over Everton, with Melvine nodding home our opening goal of the afternoon.

Following the international break, the Reds travel south for our fifth WSL fixture of the season, to Brighton, where the striker will no doubt be eager to play her part once more. That game will kick off at 18:45 GMT and be shown live in the UK on Sky Sports.

Congratulations on your award, Melvine, and thank you to everyone who voted.
