Skinner provides injury update
Marc Skinner has confirmed that Irene Guerrero will be unavailable for our Women’s Super League game against Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday.
The Reds are back in action following an international break and after making her first appearance in the 5-0 win over Everton, our summer signing will unfortunately miss out.
According to Skinner, Guerrero has a knock on her MCL which will keep her out for a ‘couple of weeks’.
The United boss chatted to the press on Friday morning, providing further details on the current absentees within our squad.
“From that perspective, everyone is healthy and available. Irene [Guerrero] has taken a little knock on her MCL, a slight tweak so she won’t be available this weekend. She will probably be out for a couple of weeks.
“I was really happy with her against Everton, she has showed some really positive signs and hopefully she won’t be out too long.
“Apart from that obviously Aoife [Mannion] is not in, Jess [Simpson], Gabby [George] and Emma [Watson] are the others.
“We are waiting for people to report back today from international duty but I have not heard of anything to worry about.”
Skinner amplified how the Seagulls are something of a different challenge to what the Reds are used too, given the change in manager seen earlier this year.
“I think Mel [Phillips] is transitioning her team from a very different type of team, they are very technical in how they set up. Mel I think is trying to take ownership in how she wants to play. They play some very good stuff. They have brought in some great players.
“It’s going to take a little time to get exactly what they want. Their play is still very good, they are very attacking.
“They have a couple of players who used to be at Manchester United so we know their qualities too. I just think it’s taking a bit of time.”
Marc was also quizzed on the recent form of Ella Toone, amplifying how he still has full faith in her abilities within the side.
“Ella will judge herself on assists and goals because that is the type of player that she is,” he added.
“You can also assist the assisters and what that means is that if people block the spaces then she finds other spaces to get in.
“The reality is that against Leicester City we were rotating the squad. I am absolutely happy with Ella, I am absolutely happy with where she was at.
“There is always work to do, there is always things to sort. We always have to reinvent ourselves. She will keep adapting and keep evolving, that’s the sort of player she is.”
