Bruno Fernandes's sumptuous strike against Everton has been voted as Manchester United’s Goal of the Month for February.

Our Portuguese magnifico's wonderful effort, which beat the Toffees' keeper Robin Olsen all ends up, claimed 39 per cent of the votes in our Official App.

Bruno scored four times in February and his volley against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns also received a lot of praise from our fans and 18 per cent of the voters believed it was the best of last month. Fernandes thereby claimed both first and second spot in the standings.

It was a close call for third place, as Edinson Cavani’s header against Southampton and Marcus Rashford’s strike against Newcastle United went toe-to-toe. In the end, it was the Wythenshawe man who just edged it with 10 per cent of the votes, to the Uruguayan frontman’s nine per cent.

Our superb no.18 wins February's Goal of the Month award with 39 per cent of votes cast, for this strike v Everton...

Bruno was very much the main man, however, and the prize-winner has talked us through the goal in an exclusive interview with club media.

"In that move I remember Fred won the ball," he started, when describing his award-winning strike.

"Before Fred turned to pass to me I looked behind me and I saw Aza [Aaron Wan-Bissaka] was a little bit free and I think at the moment I felt like [Lucas] Digne was close to me and would come to press me. Fred gave a good pass, I let the ball pass to Aza with a faint touch. Aza came inside again to me. When I controlled the ball the first thing that came into my mind was the cross because I knew that Edinson and Rashy were in the box.

“When I went to cross I saw they had given me a little bit of space and I was not feeling the cross was the best option at that moment and when they give me that little bit of space I had another touch and I felt that I could get a goal from there.”

He makes it sounds so simple! Our no. 18 then went on to reveal that the goal was one of his favourite so far in the United shirt. Since his move from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020, the attacking midfielder has found the back of the net 34 times for the Reds, so he had plenty of other options.

"Honestly I was happy because it was a good goal and perfect for the moment, but it was unlucky for us that we didn’t win that game.

“It’s one of my favourites up to now. I like the free-kick ones I scored against Liverpool and Bournemouth because I like free-kicks. But at the same time, this one was really good in that it was powerful, technical and the timing was good. I think if it is not the best, it is one of my best.”
