Solskjaer confirms Amad plan

Saturday 28 August 2021 07:00

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that teenage star Amad will spend the 2021/22 season out on loan.

The Ivorian joined from Atalanta in January of this year – although the transfer was confirmed the previous October – and has so far made eight appearances for the club, scoring his first goal in the 1-1 draw with AC Milan in March.

During his time at Old Trafford, Amad has become a senior international and recently returned from representing Ivory Coast at the Tokyo Olympics, where they were knocked out in the quarter-finals by eventual runners-up Spain.

While the 19-year-old showed great flashes of his potential towards the back end of last term, it has been decided that he will go elsewhere to get more experience.

Solskjaer revealed the news in his exclusive pre-match interview with club media, prior to our match with Wolves (kick-off 16:30 BST), but would not divulge the destination as the deal is yet to be rubberstamped.

“Yes I do [expect him to go out on loan]. It’s not 100 per cent signed but we’ve agreed,” Ole said. “I don’t have to say which team it is yet [smiles], but we’ve found a place that Amad feels excited about and we feel excited about.”

Amad – who has recently taken the no.16 shirt with the Reds, with new signing Raphael Varane succeeding him as no.19 – will be one of a number of United players with first-team experience to have gone out on loan this summer.

Brandon Williams (Norwich City), James Garner (Nottingham Forest), Andreas Pereira (Flamengo), Dylan Levitt (Dundee United) and Ethan Laird (Swansea City) have all departed for temporary spells since the campaign began.

Axel Tuanzebe (Aston Villa), Di’Shon Bernard (Hull City), Will Fish (Stockport County) and Tahith Chong (Birmingham) joined up with their clubs earlier in the summer.
