Loan Watch: Young Reds in Carabao Cup action

It was a largely positive night of Carabao Cup action for our loanees as two Manchester United full-backs made an impression at their new clubs.

Brandon Williams made his Norwich City debut after completing his move to Carrow Road earlier this week.

The 20-year-old played 76 minutes for the Canaries, coming off shortly after they had scored their sixth goal in a drubbing of AFC Bournemouth. Williams kept a clean sheet and had a good game in defence coming up against David Brooks and Emiliano Marcondes.

A Norwich debut for Williams.

Swansea City were being held to a 1-1 draw by League One Plymouth Argyle when manager Russell Martin turned to Ethan Laird on the subs bench.

The United man came on after 78 minutes and Swansea were in the lead by the 80th minute as they raced to an eventually comfortable 4-1 victory, Laird assisting the final goal.

It was an efficient impact from the right-back who made only four passes in his quarter-of-an-hour on the pitch, but created three chances, helping Morgan Whittaker to complete an 11-minute hat-trick at the end of the game.

That Laird didn't start this cup game but was brought on to help the Swans find a winner is a good sign of his importance to the side.

Axel Tuanzebe followed up a late substitute appearance for Aston Villa against Newcastle United in the Premier League with a full game for the Villans in a dream-crushing 6-0 win against Barrow.

Any chance of a cup upset was quickly wiped out as Villa climbed into a two-goal lead within 25 minutes. Tuanzebe, who has been given the number 16 at Villa Park, played in central defence and kept a clean sheet alongside Kortney Hause.

Happy Axel after a dominant win for Villa.

James Garner made his first appearance for Nottingham Forest since re-joining the East Midlands side on loan, starting and playing the full 90 minutes as they were knocked out by a Wolverhampton Wanderers side who dominated possession and the game.

Elsewhere in the Midlands, Tahith Chong was rested for Birmingham City, who lost 2-0 to Fulham, while Ethan Galbraith was an unused sub in Doncaster's 2-0 defeat to Stoke City.
