Wan-Bissaka voted Man of the Match in City win

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial may have scored the goals, but Aaron Wan-Bissaka claimed the Man-of-the-Match award following United’s superb Manchester derby victory over City.

The buccaneering right-back produced an incredible performance at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening and comfortably came out on top of his personal duel with Blues forward Raheem Sterling, which is no easy task when you consider the latter’s outstanding form in recent months and seasons.

Wan-Bissaka started as he meant to go on, by registering a couple of hard-hitting challenges during the opening exchanges, and he finished the match with some impressive statistics to his name.

In total, Aaron made seven clearances of the ball, won five tackles, blocked four crosses, made two interceptions and, as a result of all that, earned the Man-of-the-Match prize from our supporters.

The Englishman earned 69 per cent of votes that were cast by users of our Official App and that was considerably more than his fellow nominees, David De Gea and Scott McTominay, who both earned 14 and 17 per cent respectively.

WIDESPREAD PRAISE

Speaking to us after the final whistle, a beaming Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was full of praise for his summer signing from Crystal Palace. “Aaron, he's playing against Sterling out there, Mahrez out there, De Bruyne out there, and they just couldn't get past him,” said the manager.

Rashford also pointed to the performance of his English team-mate, saying: “Everyone put the work in and worked as hard as they could. In the end that is why we won the game. The one-v-one battles, especially with the full-backs were unbelievable and Aaron especially was top notch.”

‘AARON WAS ALMOST PERFECT’

MUTV analyst and tactical expert, Statman Dave, also eulogised about Wan-Bissaka’s display against City. “My Man of the Match was Aaron Wan-Bissaka and what a performance he put in for United," said Statman Dave.

“He was up against one of the most tricky and difficult wingers in the Premier League in Raheem Sterling, who failed to register a single shot on target. Aaron was almost perfect for United on the right-hand side and, for me, that area of the pitch is where United won the game.”
