Rashford explains superb goalscoring form

Marcus Rashford has revealed that consistency and confidence is the reason behind his superb goalscoring form.

The Manchester United no.10 has put in sensational performance after sensational performance in the last few weeks and again he found the back of the net during Saturday’s Manchester derby.

United ultimately emerged from the Etihad with a fantastic 2-1 win against Manchester City, thanks to Rashford’s first-half penalty and Anthony Martial’s well-taken left-foot strike.

Rashford’s goal means he has now scored 13 in his last 14 games for club and country, and has already equalled his highest goal tally for a season, with his strike against City taking him up to 13 in all competitions this year.

Speaking after the game to Sky Sports, Marcus explained the reasons behind his phenomenal form in front of goal.

“I think for a forward, consistency plays a big part,” the striker said after the match. “I’ve been playing every game in the league and have been getting regular chances in front of goal as well.

“When you feel good in front of goal, and you’re getting regular opportunities, if you miss a few it doesn’t matter because you’re confident that when the next one comes you’ll put it away.”
Rashford was part of a four-pronged attack at the Etihad - along with Daniel James, Jesse Lingard and Martial - which could, and perhaps should, have scored more than two in the opening 45 minutes.

In particular, Marcus was inches away from finding the back of the net when his effort in the first half crashed off the crossbar and the England international was disappointed to only bag one in the Manchester derby.

“I was unlucky with one that hit the bar and the one from Fred when I tried to go first time. These are little things that if we can nail them down, we can be coming in three or four goals up. For us, then the game is finished then and these are the things we can improve on.

“It’s a tough win and sometimes they do more for you as a team. We’ll enjoy the victory and I think it will help us a lot going forward.”
After the game, Marcus went straight to the away supporters to celebrate a massive three points and said that moment topped off an excellent night in Manchester.

“It’s class,” he grinned. “Nothing is better than that feeling and on a day like this you can’t top that. It’s very positive and I’m happy for the fans and the team.”
