Alejandro Garnacho

Garnacho named among world's top teenagers

Tuesday 21 March 2023 12:00

Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho has been included as one of nine winners on Goal's 2023 NXGN list, which celebrates the 50 best young talents in men's professional football.

Our no.49 has enjoyed a fine breakthrough season for the Reds, scoring four goals and registering five assists in 29 outings for Erik ten Hag's side, including late winners against Fulham and West Ham United.

While an ankle-ligament injury is keeping him out of action for the time being - and preventing the teenager from making a senior Argentina debut - Garnacho has been boosted by receiving this recognition, new for 2023, which acknowledges the cream of the crop when it comes to players born on or after January 1, 2004.

The NXGN list was first established in 2016, with a global network of youth football experts meeting each year to contribute.

Previously, the top 50 youngsters have been ranked, with past winners including Garnacho's United team-mate Jadon Sancho (2019), plus Jude Bellingham (2022), Ansu Fati (2021) and Gianluigi Donnarumma (2017).

This year, there is no ranking but nine winners have been declared, with Alejandro among them.

Endrick, who will join Real Madrid from Palmeiras next summer, Barcelona's Gavi and Youssoufa Moukoko, of Borussia Dortmund, are in the top nine too.

Arda Guler (Fenerbahce), Mohamed-Ali Cho (Real Sociedad), Romeo Lavia (Southampton), Mathys Tel (Bayern Munich) and Warren Zaire-Emery (Paris Saint-Germain) have also been recognised.

Goal has also released its unranked roll call of 50 names, which you can view in full here.
