Amad's loan compared to Liverpool man's move

Amad is starting to show his true colours, pinning down a first-team place and exciting the Sunderland supporters.

The Manchester United loanee impressed in torrential rain at Huddersfield Town in midweek, as the Black Cats won 2-0 on the road in front of a big away following.

Patrick Roberts played a one-two with Amad to set up Alex Pritchard's opener and our man got on the scoresheet himself in stoppage time, finishing off a break with a low finish past Lee Nicholls in the Terriers' goal.

The Ivory Coast international had earlier bent a shot inches wide after being afforded too much space and can be pleased with another impactful performance, in addition to the second goal of his stint on Wearside.

Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray challenged Amad recently to deliver more end-product and he has now likened the player to Liverpool's Harvey Elliott, whom he had under his tutelage during a loan move at Blackburn Rovers.

Elliott returned from the stay at Ewood Park to become a regular first-team squad member at Anfield under Jurgen Klopp, and had made 19 appearances in all competitions this term.

“We can see on the training pitch that he’s got amazing talent,” commented Mowbray. “You can see why Manchester United might’ve paid an incredible amount of money for him because the ball sticks to his foot, he’s fast and he knows where the net is. He just has to play football and enjoy it.

"At Blackburn Rovers, we had Harvey Elliott for a whole season and, sometimes, they have to make the step up.

“Amad has got amazing talent like Harvey Elliott had amazing talent. Whether he makes the jump to play for Manchester United, where they have to win every game, we’ll have to see what the future holds. But I’m really pleased that he’s with us.”

The 20-year-old Red should get another chance to catch the eye when Sunderland entertain Cardiff City at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

The Black Cats then face Birmingham City, who have Hannibal in their ranks, in a Friday night fixture before returning to action during the World Cup with a rearranged home game against Millwall on 3 December.
