Revealed: Our first United Predictions winnner
The response to our new United Predictions game has been fantastic and, after tallying the points scored, we are pleased to announce Javier Lim as the winner for matchday one.
The Singapore-based Red was one of 18 fans who racked up an impressive score of 80 points from the Premier League opener against Crystal Palace. In this instance of a tie, a winner is selected at random and Javier was drawn out of the hat.
So what did he do right? Lim predicted nine members of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting XI, correctly guessed the 4-2-3-1 formation and successfully named new signing Donny van de Beek as our first scorer.
As you would expect, Javier didn’t foresee a 3-1 win for the Eagles and, in fact, the most popular result was a Reds win by the same score.
Van de Beek's first United goal
Watch how our summer signing from Ajax scored his first goal, as a substitute at Old Trafford...
United losing the game meant that a Man of the Match poll was not opened in our Official App and that outcome meant everybody automatically received five points to their My United score.
Congratulations to Javier on his win and thanks to everybody who has taken part so far.
Remember, the prize for each game will be a 2020/21 home shirt signed by one or more members of the first-team squad. Our monthly winners will receive the same reward, as well as a free subscription to MUTV for the period of 12 months. And the best is yet to come...
Amazingly, the grand prize for the season is a match day experience at Old Trafford that will include travel (either by rail or air) and hotel accommodation. It doesn’t get any better than that!
ONE GAME, ONE GOAL
The majority of users predicted that our summer signing from Ajax, van de Beek, would start the match against Palace, so it was a surprise when the line-up announced him as a substitute.
Nevertheless, Donny eventually made an impact on the game by entering the action in the second half to score his first goal for the club, executing a low finish in the bottom corner.
We can reveal only two per cent of fans nominated the Dutchman as their first scorer, so well played to the minority of Reds who thought outside the box by backing the no.34.
First Scorer: The top five
54 per cent = Anthony Martial
17 per cent = Marcus Rashford
16 per cent = Bruno Fernandes
7 per cent = Mason Greenwood
2 per cent = Donny van de Beek
You can now make your predictions for Tuesday’s Carabao Cup third-round tie against Luton Town and this fixture will put your knowledge to the test, with Solskjaer set to rotate his squad.
In an exclusive interview earlier today, the manager told us he will make changes for the trip to Kenilworth Road and several of his fringe players will receive some much-needed minutes.
So how will that impact your decision making for United Predictions? You have until 18:45 BST to submit your starting XI, and until 20:15 BST for your first scorer, result and Man of the Match.
Good luck and thanks for playing so far.
