The Brazilian winger received 19 per cent of the vote to pip Jadon Sancho’s goal at home to Liverpool to the award. 

Antony did not attend Monday night's ceremony at Old Trafford so that he could continue to focus on his fitness, with Saturday's Emirates FA Cup final against Manchester City coming up.

He has reacted on social media, however, writing: “On my first season, winning Goal of the Season award… I’m very happy. 

“Thank you to everyone at Manchester United and all the fans that support us this season.” 

Antony's award-winning finish at the Stretford End earned him the Goal of the Month award in February. 

It was his third of the season, after previously earning the accolade in August and October. 

Antony went on to make it four GOTM awards with his effort against Real Betis in March.

Given his knack for wonder goals, his Goal of the Season award was almost inevitable.
